ASPIRING RANGERS AWARD
For Africans, working as a safari guide is an important career path to follow, and the income and gratuities earned contribute tremendously towards the well-being of individuals and families often living in impoverished areas.

We have therefore set up our Aspiring Rangers Award which identifies staff working in safari camps and lodges who aspire to train and become safari guides. Often these individuals work as waiters, carpenters, house cleaners and so forth and are unable to afford the books and binoculars necessary to become a good guide. On a bi-annual basis we then nominate one successful candidate as our aspiring guide and send him or her a pair of Bushnell binoculars and field guide book and Working as a safari guide in Africa is a great source of income for many African families

First winner: Samson of Grumeti River Camp, Tanzania. Working currently as a waiter, Samson is training to become a safari guide.

OUR HISTORY
The Safari Store is the culmination of years of planning by entrepreneur Steven Adams. Steve worked as safari guide in southern Africa, for leading safari company CC Africa. While guiding guests from the UK, US, and Europe, he became aware of how many safari travellers arrived in Africa without essential supplies for their safari. The seed was planted for the formation of a specialist safari company, based in the UK, to advise and supply customers with quality travel supplies.

Steven subsequently moved to the UK to learn about the travel business ‘from the other side.’ He worked for tour operators in London as a safari specialist and gained valuable insight into the requirements of modern travellers to wilderness destinations around the globe. Setting up a company that specialises in supplying travellers to Africa (and other warm climates) with clothing, binoculars, books, luggage and accessories seemed the obvious step to take. The Safari Store was launched online at www.safari-store.co.uk in 2007.

In selecting the products for the company, Steven asked himself a very simple question: “What would I take on safari in Africa?” He then sourced the best possible products available, preferring to stock those produced in Africa for African conditions. While the range is growing on a daily basis, the web site is now home to key travel products that no traveller to Africa (or warm climate destinations) should be without. Perhaps the most important item to pack for Africa is a good pair of binoculars, and as such The Safari Store stocks Bushnell & Swarovski binoculars – world leaders in optical technology.

The Safari Store Team will also provide advice to travellers on what to pack, and other general travel advice. Customers are urged to send their questions, and travel itinerary to service@safari-store.co.uk for free advice and recommendations.

ABOUT THE SAFARI FUND
It is our dream to expand the conservation areas of Africa. To this end we have set up The Safari Fund, not as a charity, but as an independent effort on your behalf to contribute towards preserving Africa's main asset for future growth - her wildlife! It is our aim to work together with travellers to ensure that the places we love are protected for the enjoyment of travellers, the benefit of local communities, and the maintenance of bio-diversity!

When you purchase your safari supplies from us you will see when you checkout that you will have the option to donate funds towards The Safari Fund. This is obviously entirely a voluntary contribution and will be charged to your debit or credit card.

For all funds received from you, The Safari Store will contribute £10 towards The Safari Fund.

If you wish to contact us regarding The Safari Fund, please send an e-mail to service@safari-store.co.uk.
