INSECT REPELLENT
About Tsetse Flies:
Studies have shown that Tsetse flies are repelled
by high concentrations of DEET (50-100%). The Expedition
100 contains 95% DEET and contains a bite inhibitor. Please note that to ensure an adequate
level of protection, physical means of protection
are the best repellent - such as bug jackets, head
nets and so forth during the day and an impregnated
mosquito net at night.
One should also wear the correct clothing, and avoid
blue and black. To purchase Tsetse friendly colours

Why pack Repellent? The answer to this is very simple - most adventure destinations have ideal climates for mosquito's, flying insects and irritating bugs. You really do want to have the best possible protection to not only ward off malaria and other tropical diseases, but to ensure your level of comfort while you travel is not inhibited by irritating bites and overly attendant flying bugs.
Which repellent to choose:
1) Expedition 100 Insect Repellent: A concentrated DEET formulation providing maximum,
long lasting protection against biting insects in areas
where malaria is high risk and there is a likelihood
of large numbers of biting insects. It is recommended
that this repellent not be used on children, and be
warned that while this is very effective against biting
insects, it is also very strong and should be used liberally.
• Repels: Mosquitoes, midges, horseflies, sand
flies, gnats, fleas, ticks and other biting insects.
2) Expedition 50 Plus Insect Repellent: A
dual action formula which combines natural pyrethroids
(naturally forming insecticides) with DEET to provide
a high level of protection against biting insects in
all environments.
•
Repels: Mosquitoes, midges, horseflies, sand flies,
gnats, fleas, ticks and other biting insects.
3) Expedition Bite & Sting Relief: Lifesystems bite and sting relief soothes
the discomfort and itching of bites and stings. Formulated
with natural witch hazel extract to reduce irritation,
the balm cools and soothes affected skin.
•
Active Ingredient(s): Witch Hazel extract.
•
Treats: Insect bites, skin irritation, itching, insect
& plant stings.

FLASHLIGHTS
|
Why pack a flashlight? If your travels or safari is not to a luxury camp, for example Singita in South Africa, then packing a flashlight is important. Often camps run on generators or solar power that is turned off in the evening. Furthermore, taking a torch means that on your way to the camp fire at night, or even from your room you will be able to shine around and see what wildlife is in and around your camp - a key safety feature! A flashlight is also useful if you need to go to the toilet during the night, and all the lights are switched off. We also always find that taking a flashlight adds to the fun of the experience - you really feel as though you are an explorer out on an adventure - which of course you are!
PremierLight: Having searched for months for a suitable range of flashlights to recommend to you we now stock Premierlight flashlights. More than 30 years of product design, development, engineering and manufacturing experience combine in the Premierlight premium range of lighting products. The entire range uses LED lighting (light-emitting diode) systems which offer phenomenally bright beams without the need for the bulky flashlights of old.
Which flashlight to choose:
1)
For the majority of our clients, we recommend the PLB flashlight with Compass. This torch is tough! Waterproof, crush resistant, corrosion resistant and with not one but five bright LEDs working to provide you with a mammoth amount of flawless illumination. With a liquid filled compass in the tailcap it will be your best friend whenever you feel like indulging your wild side and going in search of adventure. Visibility: 1,5 miles. Made from: Anodised Aircraft Grade Aluminium. Weight: 121 grams. Length: 125 mm. Diameter: 26 mm
2) If you are going on a really hardcore adventure, think you may feel unsafe in the bush at nigh, or you are camping out in the wilds in a fairly basic camp environment (for example walking safaris in zambia) then the PL15 is the torch for you. This torch has no gimmicks, no added extras and is quite simply pure illumination power at your finger tips. A massive 160 lumens of ultra-bright light output means you can be seen more than 9 miles away! Visibility: 9 miles +. Made from: Anodised Aircraft Grade Aluminium. Weight: 148 grams. Length: 135 mm. Diameter: 25 mm

TRAVEL GEAR
& ADAPTORS
|
This is our small selection of products that are everyday necessities for travel to Africa and beyond. The Snoozer will help you nod off to sleep on your flight, while the Tag & Lock is a great way to secure your luggage and identify it as being yours. For travel to South Africa, the UK-SA Adaptor is very useful indeed for travellers from Britain, America, Australia and the Far East (2 & 3 pin plugs). The Travel Adaptor is for converting 3-pin UK plugs for use with round 2-pin sockets (European), flat 2-pin sockets (U.S) and flat angled 2-pin sockets (Australian). These are the most common types of socket around the world. The DVT FLight Socks: Research has shown that 1 in 30 passengers
on a long-haul flight are at risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis
(DVT). The use of Lifesystems graduated compression
flight socks can improve circulation, relieving discomfort
and helping to prevent circulatory problems such as
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). Your ankle has little muscle
in it and requires more stimulus than your calf to speed
up circulation. The knee length socks provide graduated
compression to stimulate blood flow.
