Throughout the selection process we used our intimate knowledge of what is required by the modern safari and adventure traveller when out in the field. All our clothing has been tailored using cool, strong fabrics to suite the rigours of travel to warm climates, and is light in weight too.

Colour is Key when packing for Africa: All our safari clothing is neutral in colour, with the classic safari colours (khaki, stone) the sensible options to choose. The great news is that by purchasing our clothing you will still be able to look stylish in the bush. We have used modern cuts and colours when designing or selecting the safari and travel clothes for our range.

ABOUT OUR SAFARI CLOTHING
Colour is Key when packing for Africa: All our safari clothing is neutral in colour, with the classic safari clothing colours (olive, stone, smoke) the sensible options to choose. The great news is that by purchasing our safari clothing you will still be able to look stylish in the bush as we have used modern cuts and colours when designing or selecting the safari clothes for our range. Your core olive, stone, or fossil safari clothes can now be worn with Taupe, Pecan or Cadet colours to allow you to mix and match your wardrobe, even while on safari. These colours are still highly suitable colours to wear while on safari.

Colours to Avoid: By sticking to our range of safari clothing you will pack the correctly coloured safari clothes. There are colours to avoid, however. Please make sure that you do not pack safari clothing that is blue or black in colour if you are going to an area with tsetse flies as they are attracted to both colours (and their bites are very painful). For walking in the bush, white should be avoided as it stands out against the muted browns and green tones of Africa. Some travellers have asked how this can be true when African tribesmen (for example the Masaai) wear bright colours in the bush. The answer is simple - they are protecting their cattle from attack by predators, and so want to stand out as much as possible when in the bush. Your aim when walking on safari is to remain as inconspicuous as possible so that animals do not notice you and you are then able to watch their natural behaviour, rather than their tails as they run away - or even worse their teeth or tusks as they approach you for a closer look. For the majority of African countries please do not pack camouflage safari clothing as you may be in trouble with the military - many countries have declared camouflage clothing illegal attire for civilians. Our safari clothing is all neutral in colour and is ideal for the safari experience, especially important if you intend to go walking with your guide - an activity we highly recommend!

Travel Light for Africa when packing your Safari Clothing: Packing the correct safari clothing has become increasingly important in Africa due to the strict implementation of luggage weight restrictions on internal flights - usually 12 to 15 kilograms per person. This applies in particular to travel to Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya and all other countries where access to safari camps and lodges is by scheduled charter or light aircraft. Our safari clothing is all light weight. But please do not be fooled into thinking that the fabrics we selected for our range are weak due to their lightweight characteristics. The specially selected fabrics are designed to take a beating and we have tested our safari clothing in the harshest environments. This includes Chewore in the Zambezi valley, the Rufiji River within the Selous Game Reserve, the Namib desert and the Damaraland, and then of course, tsetse fly heaven - the Katavi National Park!

By purchasing safari clothing from The Safari Store, you will also ensure that you 'look the part', and protect your own day-to-day clothing from the dust, thorns and strong sun encountered while travelling. Rest assured that we would not put our name on our core clothes, if we did not believe it to be the best in safari & travel clothing.

*Due to Fabric shortages in Africa, for the months of June to October we have sourced our safari clothing from an alternative supplier. Not to worry, we have still kept up our dedication to quality - the safari clothes are incredibly good! Our full range of branded safari clothing will be launched at the beginning of November - just in time for summer in Africa! Some of our core safari clothing is still available in our safari clothing sale.
